Update Default Gantry Template after making customizations

I just updated the Gantry Framework to 4.1.2 without issue.
Now I see that the current template is Gantry 4.0 and there is now a Gantry 4.1.2 template out now.
I have made customizations to my Gantry 4.0 template. I think all of my changes should be just css and in the gantry-custom.css, Since this file does not exist in the template update, is it safe to say that it will not be overwritten when the template is upgraded?
1. What is the best way to upgrade the template to 4.1.2?
2. Where can I go to see a template changelog?

if all your changes are in gantry-custom.css you should be safe

Actually after some more testing it I realized it was a bit of a mess.
We were using the fusion menu which is no longer there.
I added the navigation position and when I add a menu to it, you can not click on any of the menu items.
There were quite a few things changed between 4.0.5 and 4.1.2

i think it´s a Javascript Problem
Use the new Menu from Gantry 4.1.2 - its way better.
