Split Menu - Viewed on phone only shows first menu level

    • First I really appreciate your help on this. I will summarize the setups that I currently have and I am happy to provide backend access if needed.

I have turned off all RokNavMenu modules and only controlling the menu through the Gantry Template settings. Since it is all being controlled through the gantry template settings their is no way to limit the levels of menu items displayed.

One way to confirm the different versions it to view the site with a narrow (phone width) browser and you will notice that the newer setup has the 3 line icon in the top right.

      Here is the current setup

Site 1 -- Gantry is updated
      jhr.intownwebdesign.com
      Joomla 2.5.8
      Gantry Framework 4.1.2 / Gantry Template 4.1.2
      RokNavMenu 2.0.0
Menu is displayed using Gantry template settings
      Menu Type Split Menu
      Main menu position - Navigation-a
      Sub menu position - Navigation-a

Phone display results: Only top level menu items display in selectbox

Site 2 -- Older version of Gantry
      dev.intownwebdesign.com
      Joomla 2.5.7
Gantry Framework 4.0.5 / Gantry Template 4.0.x (cant remember the exact template version)
      RokNavMenu 1.16
Menu is displayed using Gantry template settings
      Menu Type Split Menu
      Main menu position - showcase-a
      Sub menu postion - showcase-a

Phone display results: All levels menu items display in selectbox

Let me know if this makes sense or if you have any questions.

      Thanks! -- Steven

    • Did you upgrade RokNavMenu to the latest version on the web site that uses Gantry 4.1.2?

    • It was upgraded. When first noticed this issue I upgraded it.

Gantry 4.1.2 site has rokNavMenu 2.0.0

Gantry 4.0 site has rokNavMenu 1.16

      Thanks!

    • Any update on this?

I have a second Joomla site that has the exact same behavior. The split menu is only showing the first level menu items when displayed on a phone.

      http://jbeginner.com
      Joomla 2.5.8
      Gantry Framework 4.1.2
      Gantry Template 4.0.5 (I think)
      RokNavMenu 2.0.0
      Menu System: Split Menu

The site was originally RokNavMenu 1.7 and it did the same thing

      Thanks! -- Steven

The new November template exhibits the exact same behavior.

Go to the metropolis demo and narrow the browser to phone width, you will be able to see the entire menu system.

Now in the metropolis demo set the menu to split menu and narrow the browser window to phone width and you can only see the top level of menu items.

If you do this same test with the October template, the split menu shows the entire menu system when displayed on a phone.

    • Based on the warning message on your site I would say that you still didn't install latest version of RokNavMenu on your site

Is there something else that needs to be upgraded?
Does RokNavMenu Need to be installed and uninstalled?

What about the same behavior differences between the split and dropdown menu on the Metropolis demo?

      Thanks! -- Steven

    • hi there,

gantry has had some major changes regarding the mobile menu functionality from version 4.0.x to 4.1.x, that's why you see the differences on different sites of yours.

using the splitmenu with latest roknavmenu and gantry, the child items will usually be displayed in the sidebar-a position. this is the default setting and is also used on our demo when switching it to splitmenu. when you now view the metropolis demo with splitmenu on a mobile, then the child items will display further down the page where the sidebar modules get rendered.

if you would like to display all menu items in the mobile panel menu then this can really only be achieved by using the dropdown menu option at this point.

      kat :)
