adding a background color to a menu module position

Hi, I am developing a client website here:
gantry25.discoverlemongrove.com/
My client wants to put the main menu under the header image, which I did, but they also want the background color to be the same as it was on the top: background-color: #363636;.
I looked using firebug but this seems to be part of a css-compiled file. I have been warned against modifying these specific files, and I would like to know what is the correct way to add the color to the background.
This module is managed via the "Menu" item in the "Templates Manager / Edit Style" section.

Add css override to your custom css file
This is how you create a custom CSS file...

When we release upgrades template files will change and you will have to reapply all your changes again (that's if you can remember where they all are). If you keep your changes in a separate Custom CSS file you'll have no issues upgrading. - Check my services at: Mihha-Vision
