Remove ? icons from login module

This may seem like a silly question but I have spent several hours trying to figure out where the question mark icons are coming from for the links on the login module.
? create an account
? forgot username
? forgot password
As a senior web developer and 6 year Joomla web developer, I can't believe that this little feature has been so difficult to locate for customization. Honestly I couldn't imagine anyone ever wanting these icons on the the links to begin with. I can't even figure out if this is a feature in Joomla, Gantry, or the gantry default template. Please help!
