Page heirarchy and override assignments issue

  • Page heirarchy and override assignments issue

Posted 13 years 2 months ago
    • I have a locations page "Find Us" which displays info on multiple locations. It also has it's own gantry override called "Find Us".

I have pages with each specific location "Location 1" as a parent of the top location "Find Us" page. Each sub page has it's own gantry override.

      i.e
Find Us (gantry override "Find Us")
      .. | Location 1 (gantry override ("Location 1")

The problem I have is that the sub pages are picking up on the parent override.
When I navigate to the "Location 1" page it is displaying the "Find Us" gantry override.

Has anyone came across this and/or have a suggesting for what's going wrong?

      Thanks,

    • How are you assigning the overrides? Are you using the menu item assignment?

    • Hey Cliff,

No it's on the individual pages.

If I take a page out of the heirarchy, setting it with no parent, the override works.

Gantry seems to apply the parent page override to all the children, regardless whether they have an override of their own.

      See weecare.gravitationalfx.net

If you open the nav item "Locations" it has the gantry override of "Locations"

If you open the sub nav item "Locations | Belfast: Antrim Road" it should display a different gantry override called "Location Belfast Antrim"

      The page structure is:
      Locations
      .. Belfast: Antrim Road

If you use the "Home" nav item and open up "Find Us | Dublin" this is where the gantry override "Location Belfast Antrim" should kick in.

I've had to disable the gantry override "Locations" on the "Find Us" page in order for you to see what should be happening.

    • Can you try assigning the override to the menu item instead of the page, sometimes that works better.

    • Hi, I checked it out on my demo. I added both the pages and the menu items to the assignments and it worked for me. Let me know if that helps.

    • I'm experiencing the same issue in the Modulus theme. I have a Parent Page "US Hotels" and then sub pages are the individual states. I wanted a "full-width" (no sidebar) page for "US Hotels" and then a sidebar to appear on all the state pages. However, when I assign the override to just the "US Hotels" Page and the "US Hotels" Menu Item, the override effects all the state pages.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    • Hi, try creating an override that has the sidebar position, then assigning the individual / sub pages and menu items to that override. By default, Wordpress passes down "active" states for child pages and menu items. Try that and see if it works.
