Gantry page layouts

I'm setting up a WordPress site with Gantry, and have been digging into customizing the widget layout and the Gantry theme settings. I'm set up WordPress to have a static home page.
What I do not understand is: after setting up a custom widget layout for the main page, now all pages I create automatically use that same widget layout (when I would rather have them just be generic pages). Despite other tutorials out there (which maybe were for earlier version of WordPress), I do not see any capability to choose custom templates when creating a new page.
So I do not understand how the Gantry widget layout works relative to singular and global pages. How do I set certain widget layouts for specific pages and different widget layouts for other pages?

You'll need to create overrides for pages. My guess is that you made changes to the default page override and now you're seeing them across all pages.

For some reason, I was not able to access that tutorial link above (I'm logged in here, tho the page says "You are not authorised to read this forum.").
If you can re-direct me to that tutorial, that would be great. Meanwhile, I'll try searching for info on Gantry overrides.
