SOLVED Menu sub-level created in WP not appearing in Gantry

I am using Gantry5 and Protean theme.
I create top-level menu items in WP Menu Manager - they all appear in Gantry menu manager fine.
However I move a menu item to a sub-level postition in WP Menu Manager and it does *not* appear in Gantry MM.
The item appears normally when in the WP top menu level, but does not show in Gantry when indented as a subordinate.
I have compared with the Protean demo and all sub-menu items appear correctly in WP and Gantyr menu managers.
I have spent hours searching the forums, and re-reading the Gantry and Protean documentation. I seem to be doing things properly, but the menu item does not appear when place at a sub-level.
This should be very simple, yet I cannot resolve this problem.

- There is a bug in the Gantry about this the best way is to delete wp-content/themes/rt_themename/custom/config/menu/menuname.yaml. You will loose the changes you did from Gantry menu, but it will fix the menu for you.
