change header for a image keeping the width

Hello, first of all congratulations on all of your templates and extensions love your work, sincerely.
I've been trying to change the header of gantry using:
#rt-header {background:url(../images/headerimage.jpg) !important;}
But the header just keeps going and going as you can see in the picture...
I would like it just to refrain to the width of gantry. How can i do it?
P.S. - By the way, is there a way i can make the menu with a gradient?
