Installing Gantry on Nooku Server?

Hi guys
I'm experimenting a bit with Nooku Server - after reading in the Gantry Changelog a not about adding support for Nooku Server, I thought I'd try installing it to see what happens.
I downloaded the bundle for the latest version for Joomla 1.5 (3.1.18). Because Nooku Server has no installer, I manually copied the com_gantry, plg_ and template folders to the relevant places, but something's obviously gone wrong. I realise something is missing, but I cannot work out what it is.
The Gantry system plugin does not show in the plugins list, and there is no Gantry "component" shown. Also, the template control panel gives a 500 error.
I've tried searching around but I can find no instructions for this, so here's my question.
Is there a way to manually install Gantry on Nooku Server without using the installer? I am very interested in experimenting with Nooku Server, and Gantry seems like the best way to go about it.
Any feedback would be appreciated
UPDATE #1 - I have moved com_gantry to administrator/components and I no longer get a 500 error. However I don't have the gantry configuration options yet - instead I get a notification for each item saying "Element not defined for type = menuitemhead" etc.
Still no sign of the plugin. Small progress
