I assume you mean joomla 2.5.6? Did you use gantry4.0.1 ? Php version? Php memory is min of 64m? MySQL version?

Yes, I used Joomla 2.5.6, Gantry 4.0.1 Xampp for Mac OS vers.1.7.3 (Mysql 5.1.44 php 5.3.1)
I had the same problem described in this post:

I tried also to install first the framework and then the template, but this didn't solve the problem

Try to use MAMP. I have no problems with it what so XAMPP.

SOLVED: the only way to install correctly (at least on local with Xampp and Mac OS) is to install SEPARATELY the framework and the template.
BUNDLE and ROCKETLAUNCHER aren't suitable!!

I'm on Mac with Map and have no issues.
Perhaps you need to increase the php memory in your installation?
Or php upload size?
Bundle and Rocketlauncher work just fine!

I have 36 rocket launchers installed on my pc xampp - no issues.

I am happy to report the control panel upgrade to 4.0.1, which I selected by accident, worked like a champ!
I was getting some non-RT extensions upgraded and click the Gantry one by mistake. Needless to say...nothing is broked that I can tell
