    Gantry 4.1.5 and changing styles

Posted 12 years 2 months ago
    • Just started using Gantry 4.1.5 with Joomla 2.5. Would like to be able to change the colours of the background, footer header etc. in the default template

Could do this with the old gantry by using template style or amending CSS files. Can't find either of these methods with the new Gantry. Can someone tell me where the files are so we can amend these settings.

      Regards

      Ian

    • You will have to use Firebug or Chrome dev tools for example to find proper css definition you would like to override and then put your css override in custom css file

This is how you create a custom CSS file...
      www.gantry-framework.org/documentation/j...-a-custom-stylesheet

When we release upgrades template files will change and you will have to reapply all your changes again (that's if you can remember where they all are). If you keep your changes in a separate Custom CSS file you'll have no issues upgrading.

    • Hi Igor,

      thanks for the response.

I don't understand why something which was quite simple - even for the technically challenged, like myself, now appears to be more complicated.

Some of your templates allow these changed in the traditional way, but most of the new ones don't. I will have to do what you suggest, which takes more time, I will have to learn the new Less system, which will increase the possibility of things going wrong.

I like the structural flexibilty of the Gantry Framework, but RT templates are over designed an therefore it is important to be able to amend and switch off certain styling elements so they don't swamp a client's branding. When they do allow for backgrounds/footers/headers to be altered, most templates don't allow for the background to be switched off completely.

Would be great to have more control over the 'big ticket' design elements, in a straight forward manner. - or, a range of simple, contemporary templates.

      Regards

      Ian

    • You really don't have to learn LESS at all if you don't want. I already told you that you can create custom css files and use css with them. On the other hand, LESS is nothing else than CSS 8)
