    Creating my own RocketLauncher

Posted 12 years 1 month ago
    • How do I go about creating my own RocketLauncher with my customised template based on the default Gantry template and using custom demo content so that I can create a launcher-style install of Joomla.

I am assuming that if I set up a site, there is a way to convert a "site" into a "launcher"?

This would save me an enormous amount of time rather than installing a plain vanila Joomla site, then replacing the Isis admin template with my customised version, then installing the Gantry Bundle then replacing the Gantry template with my customised template.
    • Thank you.

    • Hi Ali,

The RocketLauncher has been built as a bespoke tool to take into account our updates and programming team. You could take a look at something like this - extensions.joomla.org/extensions/tools/installation-tools/2539

      Hope this helps 8)

    • Hi David,

That is an interesting solution to provide the ability to mass install Joomla. However, it isn't exactly what I am looking for.

What I need is to be able to create a quick start solution so that I can sell custom templates I develop on sites like Themeforest. The GPL license in Gantry allows the development of custom templates (while keeping all the relevant Gantry copyright info in place).

Previously, through Joomla 1.7, creating launchers or quick sites was as simple as deleting the configuration.php file, copying the installation folder from the same version Joomla installer, and replacing the sample_data.sql with a dump from the configured site, then zipping the entire contents of the new installer.

This still works to some extent...except that I can't get it to install all the plugins and extensions and components. They can be installed later through "discover" but that isn't really the right process either, and errors get thrown about.

I am hoping I can get some guidance on how to convert an installation to a quickstart installer.

      Thank you,

      Ali

    • Can't you use Akeeba Backup?

    • Well, akeeba is a good solution to "restoring a site" but then again, it isn't a simple installer. It would require the end user to upload to their site the akeeba kickstart files then go through the process of restoring. A quickstart or rocketlauncher is different in that it is designed to install a completely uncustomised site, prompting the user for the site name, admin login info, etc.

Akeeba would be a good solution for restoring a site including maintaining the admin username (you can override it, but that is a manual process the user will need to employ, rather than the standard Joomla installer process where they are forced to put the admin username and password in).

Furthermore, with a Joomla quick installaer or rocket launcher-like installer, the user can elect to install the sample data or not...that is up to them. Akeeba will force them to maintain the sample data.
    • Thank you.
