    • Bootstrap has released version 3.0RC1 and I was curious how to incorporate this into my Joomla 2.5 / Gantry 4.x site?

      It would be super cool if there was a bootstrap version selector inside of the gantry control panel, then I could select version 2.3.2 or versions 3.x. Just a thought.

    • Even if you could switch Gantry between BS2 to BS3, a custom template built on it would be dependent on one or the other, right? If so it could break with the wrong one selected. That doesn't seem like a good switch to have, where one option is "broken." Would it make more sense to have separate BS2 and BS3 versions of Gantry?

      To adopt BS3 prior to the Joomla core doing so will also require creation of a set of template overrides for core extensions that are currently using BS2 markup. More would be needed for third party extensions. At least this is code that could be contributed to Joomla 4.

      From the theme club developer's perspective, there may be little incentive to complicate things this way because they already are going to have to support J3/BS2 and J4/BS3 templates at the same time for a while. Making it possible to also have J3/BS3 and J4/BS2 doubles the trouble, no?

      After posting this topic, I learned much more about the BS2 to BS3 changes and realized it is much more than changing a few javascript and css files.

      I think the changes will have to start at the Joomla core, then the template makers and extension developers will adapt to what the Joomla core does.

      I like the look of BS3 and was hoping the transition would be easy but it does not appear to be that way.

      lessphp compiler which is integrated in gantry can only compile bootstrap 2.x.
      The newer version of lessphp (0.4.0) compiles Bootstrap 3.0.0 and RC, but it seems that the syntax has been changed since 3.0.0/RC and there are some issues compiling the latest version of bootstrap.

      Besides that, there are quite some questions about joomla itself and how they move on in future (framework, platform, next, whatever) (A Conversation: http://brian.teeman.net/joomla/799-joomla-4-0-or-next-joomla-platform-or-framework-wtf-is-going-on )

      How things get in and out of bootstraps framework is very interesting too and produce headaches to some devs (An Example: https://github.com/twbs/bootstrap/issues/9590 )

      Next time compiling your less file, the compiler ran into an error faster than you could say "hello". Just a thought, that it is not so easy as simple move some files around.


      So i think this is planned for Joomla! 4.x / Joomla! Next / etc...
