Gantry 5 loadposition issue

  • Gantry 5 loadposition issue

Posted 9 years 10 months ago
    • Hi,

      I am trying to display a JUX Google Map extensions.joomla.org/browse/new/extensi...ions/jux-google-maps on a Joomla 3.4.1 / Gantry 5.0.0-rc.3 / Hydrogen 5.0.0-rc.3 website.

Setting the module to use the "footer" module position works fine.

When I set the module to custom module position "location-map" or similar and then use:
      {loadposition location-map}
in an article, unfortunately the map is not displayed. I can see the module title so I assume my loadposition syntax is correct.

As an additional sanity check, I changed the default template to one of the default Joomla templates, and the map displays fine via loadposition in Protostar.

Another way round this issue might be to publish the module to the content-bottom position if this was Gantry 4 but there seems no way to create this in Gantry 5. I have posted separately about this issue at: www.rockettheme.com/forum/gantry-framewo...ntent-bottom#1209827

      Any help is appreciated.

      Neil

    • Thanks Mark, I really appreciate the help.

I have set up the home page article so that a Google Map should be inserted via loadpostion. This is a copy of the module that is working successfully on the contact page, published to the "bottom" module position.

      (Credentials supplied).

Note that I have temporarily renamed the custom.scss file I was using in the meantime so this is not contributing to the issue.

    • So, I created a customHTML module in position "testposition" and added a {loadposition testposition} to your article on the home page. As you can see the module renders perfectly. Therefore the issue is with the particular module that you are trying to embed using loadposition. You will see that part of it is rendering ok it just that the salient element (the map) is not rendering. In fact, if you check the browser console you will see that the module is generating javascript errors.

So, you do need to ask the developer of that extension about this.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Hi Mark,

      Thanks for investigating.

I confirm that loadposition is working fine and I can reproduce the console error "jQuery is not defined" when loading the Google map via loadposition into the main content area in the Hydrogen template.

I'm not convinced this is an extension issue, however.

The same module works perfectly (with no console errors) when published to a module position and also displays perfectly via loadposition into the main content area in other templates, just not Hydrogen.

This is the second show stopper for me with Gantry 5 and Hydrogen template.

It looks like I'll need to revert to Gantry 4 for a while.

Thanks for all your help anyway which is much appreciated and I look forward to the day when I am as comfortable with Gantry 5 as I am with Gantry 4.

      Neil.

    • There are other ways of getting what you want without using loadposition.

      1. you can use a module position particle on the layout and publish your joomla module to that position
      2. you can use a module instance particle on the layout and load that particular module in there.

both those should work - try it - don't be too quick to abandon gantry 5 - it's getting better everyday and lots of members are already using it on production sites without issue.

    • Ok the other one does need to be looked at by our DEVS, but this particular can be overcome - it's not a showstopper.
