    • For whatever reason Djamil Legato decided to close my last thread on the frustrations on gantry 5 because he didn't feel it was prodcutive

Well let me state this - I have spent the last 2 hours working with the Kraken rocketlauncher theme on a completely new build determined to try and learn gantry 5 and I am ready to shoot myself.

      1) I can't change the logo - what use is a template where you can't change the logo
      2) I have no idea how to change the words KRAKEN in the middle of the page - I have read through the documentation and none of it makes sense and I can't find a single element that they are talking about.

      DID I SAY 2 HOURS!!!!!

So now I am going to try and delete this entire setup and start with a completely blank krakan install and see if I can recreate anything myself.

Mr. Legato you wanted useful feedback - well there it is - your gantry 5 system is impossible to use!

Please give me back gantry 4 so I can actually get work done

Can't speak to that as you didn't mention the Topic. If your referring to your Topic being Solved that is a lot different than being closed. You or anybody else is still free to post in that Topic. The Solved is more a bookkeeping matter so we can keep track of new issues that haven't been addressed yet.

The Logo is part of the FixedSide Section. The Documentation "Recreating the Demo - FixedSide Section", specifically the " Logo (particle) " section shows clearly how to change your Logo image.

Again the Documentation should help you out here. The words Kraken, Versatile and Stylistic are the content of a " Gantry 5 Particle (Swiper) "

That's surprising looking at all the Gantry 5 live sites our members have produced already. However I can empathize with you as the Gantry 5 learning curve for me(older dude) was a lot tougher than some of my fellow mods :(

Having said that, as much as I liked Gantry 4 I find the last few sites (I'm higher on the curve now) I developed went a lot faster than it would have in Gantry 4. To me as a developer the flexibility and capabilities of Gantry 5 are something Gantry 4 can't touch.

If you have specific issues than PLEASE post a Topic and I would be more than glad to share with you the knowledge I've gleaned in the last few months on Gantry 5.

    • I'm a bit puzzled about your post.
I haven't looked at the template yet.
So I just checked the docs ... looked for a module in header-a as it was shown – and changed it.
That was all I had to do to change the swiper – that's really not gantry 5 specific or complicated.
      Just edit a module.
Only difference is ... instead of unreadable html code in a custom html module you just click "edit particle" and get a nice UI interface.

      Hello Mr. Parks,

I'm sorry to hear G5 is too complicated for you, here ( gantry.org/downloads#g4-joomla ) is where you can find Gantry 4. Please be adviced that we no longer develop on top of Gantry 4, as extensively explained over and over again.

      Thank you.

    • RE: www.rockettheme.com/forum/gantry-framewo...53-dropping-gantry-5

I've been a developer member since March, 2009.
Dec 20, 2015 is my last day as a RocketTheme customer.

I empathise with Richard Parks but I have always found the RT "replicate the demo" documentation to be very helpful in helping me unwind the complexity of these cool designs. On the other hand, I also share his frustration with the increasing complexity of RT templates. I've decided I don't want to add another layer (particles) on top of Joomla.

      Providing a link to Gantry4 isn't useful.
Those of us who prefer Gantry4 over Gantry5 are dissapointed RocketTheme is no longer providing G4 templates.
I understand it, but I don't have to like it.

I don't see a future for my company with RocketTheme.
I will miss the fantastic support and wonderful community.

    • If it helps any, Richard, an overwhelming majority of the people learning G5 are going through the same frustration, myself included. G5 is WAY beyond what a newbie AND many advanced users can grasp easily. It doesn't come quickly. G5 won't supply most of us with instant gratification UNLESS you are a coding God. If you find any of those Gods, send 'em to me when you are done with 'em.

Lacking the intervention of Gods and just like Gantry 4 when it first came out, we are not going to learn it all in a day or a week. This is an awesome framework... we just have to learn how to use it. It's new to the team too.

Yes, documentation is slow in coming but it IS getting better by leaps and bounds. It was the same way for Gantry 4. This time, it's better, sleeker and more functional.... or at least I keep repeating that to myself while I read, study, think I've got it, back up, experiment, destroy and reinstall sites continuously offline. After decades of learning new computer languages, you'd think I would be better at it too, huh?

My motto is "Design Is Very Addictive." I am a Joomlaholic and template DIVA. I feed my addiction daily.

Caveat: Said addiction leads to sleeplessness and supreme irritability until the "Ta-Daaa" moment comes. Keep your chin up and keep analyzing those modules. Your "Ta-Daa" is right around the corner.

Remember how hard Joomla was when it first came out?... and how many times we've had the grief of Joomla upgrades, migration and more new learning curves, etc., etc., etc..........

updates don't stop... until we do.

    • I am not dropping gantry 5, but I am hijacking this thread, sorry. It is quite complicated and not 100% intuitive, I have had a few battles to change things and it has been frustrating. However in 1990 I was an datacoms engineer, I connected stockbroking offices to stock exchanges all over the world. My boss told me to read up on some new tech for an install. I was awake for days, confused and pulling my hair out. I could not believe how complicated someone could make something. It took a while but I got there, you mat have heard of it, it was called TCP/IP.

Change is always a bit of a pain in the back end but its very ofen worth it and it usually gets easier. That is what I am hoping with Gantry 5. Did I say, I am staying with it.

      Hi Graham

It's frustrating for us Mods seeing all the angst some members have with Gantry 5.
I can say with real world experience that I had a devil of time when I first started using it. Now that I've had time to really get into it I can't believe how easy and quick it is for prototyping.

      I code a LOT LESS with G5 than I did with G4.

So to me its analogous to your first time drinking Tequila - that first sip YECCCHH - but by the 10th one - melllowww.....................
