K2 broke Gantry 5 template animation. Uninstall broke mysql
Posted 8 years 7 months ago
The purpose of this post is to provide info to Gantry 5 users. I also posted this info at Joomlaworks.com. Of course, advice is always welcome anyway.
I'm using Joomla 3.62, Gantry 5, Hydrogen template (customized) on a major web site hosting service, which has control panel and phpmyadmin.
I installed K2. Then the template's swiffy animation (
developers.google.com/swiffy
) in the template quit working and disappeared.
I uninstalled K2.
I noticed that mysql database had increased in size by 50%.
I tried to optimize mysql and received the following error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pma_tableheader() (previously declared in /www/public/phpMyAdmin-3.0.1/db_structure.php:81) in /www/public/phpMyAdmin-3.0.1/db_structure.php on line 116
I ran a mysql checktable and received the following errors:
Problems with indexes of table `tbl_user_keys`
The indexes series and series_3 seem to be equal and one of them could possibly be removed.
The indexes series and series_2 seem to be equal and one of them could possibly be removed.
At this point, it looks like I'll have to do a completely new install of the website. Fortunately, it's a test site. The test site is Fraudstoppers.com, although I don't know how long I'll leave the broken site up.
I note a
post at Github.com in the Gantry 5 project

I'm not able to get K2 (v2.7.0) to work:
Fatal error: Class 'K2HelperHTML' not found in /home/matias/www/joomla/administrator/component

For what do you need K2?
Maybe I should continue this discussion in another thread where I asked some questions about K2, in which Damir is helping. That thread is

To update other viewers of this thread, the old thread "What does K2 give v Joomla" was a discussion of the advantages of using K2 in Joomla, but the discussion was 2 1/2 years old. In that thread, I wondered if more recent advances in Joomla 3.6, Gantry 5, and Rockettheme particles, such as Rokcomments, Rokbox, Rokgallery, Roksprocket, and Rokminievents provided similar functionality as did K2, which would imply that I did not need K2.
In that thread, Damir asked why I needed K2, and I didn't know if I really needed it, considering info in the paragraph above. One remaining advantage of K2, was that it offered a blog feature that could be accessed by users from the front end. I was considering installing the free Blog Factory extension.
Now, you're up to date regarding our discussion of K2 and blogs. I did install Blog Factory on a test site. It looks good, but I have not really used it yet. Damir helpfully suggested Easy Blog and RS Blog, which I will take a look at. Thanks.
