Particle Defaults when using Gantry 5 Module

I could be missing someing obvious, but after searching I've not found a specific reasoning for how particle defaults work when you are using a Gantry 5 Module.
Questions #1: If I set the default values in Particle Defaults for the Social Particle: FB,Twitter, LinkedIn etc..., I would expect every place I use that particle (in modules) that the field values and settings would be inherited.
Its redundant and adds time to maintain if you are using multiple Gantry Particles of the same type, but using different module variations for styling and have to repeat the process of Adding the same links to the Social Particle for all my websites.
Just trying to figure out if I'm missing something or if this is the intended functionality.

- I think that will only work for the particles that are in layout to use the default particle settings.
- Available for CUSTOM WORK with Joomla, WordPress and Grav Templates and Gantry Framework!
