How to reset a gantry template (somaxion)

Posted 14 years 9 months ago
    • Hello,

i have problems with my sites layout/typo doesnt reflect what i think it should look like and as a first step of debugging i would like to "factory" reset my somaxion gantry template. Is there a way without completely removing the template and if i do this and reinstall later, will none of the old parameters be overtaken? Are some parameters saved in the database or are all in the filesystem?

      cheers,

      Arnd

    • Back up your site, create a dev site on your localhost or a sub folder of your site, uninstall the template, reinstall the latest version, and test from that point.

For this you can use Akeeba Backup:

      www.akeebabackup.com/akeeba-backup-for-joomla/index.html

(You can also use Akeeba to move your dev site to a new location, e.g., the site root when dev is complete.)

Get in the habit of creating regular backups at whatever point you deem necessary to restore to a point where everything is 'normal'.

This could be hourly if you are heavily testing a component, daily (at the end of each days work), or every few days or weekly if you site doesn't change much.

This thread may be of interest:

But really it's hard to help you out if you can't clearly identify 'what went wrong at what point', so you need to take a proactive approach.

    • thx,

i usually create backups after, lets say, "major" checkpoints or advancements are reached or after a certain timespan. But sometimes you change just 3 little "things", maybe didnt clear the joomla/local cache and 2 days later you see youre site is "f*** up" and have to backtrack the problems.

Unluckily sideeffects of coliding css definitions due to the missing namespace encapsulation in css and/or not well written modules/plugins can be a "pain in the ....".

Using the gantry system adds even more complexity but i thinks its well worth the effort as it compensates for shortcomings of the joomla core.

      Thanks for the support,

      Arnd
