Gantry Problem on 1&1

    • Prim,
The two errors including T_OBJECT_OPERATOR = are indeed caused by using PHP4 instead of 5. After trying a restore with Akeeba Back I forgot to update .htaccess. I fixed that.

However, now I am back to the original problem:

Fatal error: Call to a member function children() on a non-object in /homepages/44/dxxxxxxxxx/htdocs/www.domain.com/components/com_gantry/core/gantrytemplatedetails.class.php on line 49, "(Notice) Trying to get property of non-object"

I am surely not an expert in linux, apache, php or jooma, but if I am not mistaken the gantry error is caused by not seeing any templates. I guess I need to figure out why the Template Manager is not working. I think the empty list in there is key to the problem!

I already checked file access and ownership. Both appear to be correct (755 and my user id).

Since 1&1 doesn't seem to provide access to the PHP there isn't much else to research.

Is anybody successfully using gantry with custom templates on a 1&1 business account?

If needed I can provide access to joomla admin, but there is really not much to see there... Besides the template problem Admin is working perfectly fine. I checked multiple other components without problems.

One more odd thing. I had to uninstall JoomFish to get admin to work.

      Thanks,
      Jens

    • I installed some local error handlers to capture error messages, but there is just nothing.

Finally, I did a clean test install with gantry and a template. That worked right away... I guess the problem is caused by something else in my web page... :(

I will have to start installing & copying from scratch now. So much for Joomla being a solution that be backed up and copied to another host...

Thanks to everyone for trying to help!

      Regards,
      Jens

like servlin or rochen and save yourself all the problems I been going through

    • Since 1&1 is my first hosting provider I can't tell if they are bad or good. So far I am good and bad.

I also have to say that a fresh Joomla install works without problems so far. I already added K2, CB, Gantry and some RocketTheme extensions. So, the issue seems to be in the transportability of Joomla which is also something I haven't done before. My best guess is that there is something corrupted in my local install that IIS doesn't recognize as a problem, but Apache does...

Anyhow, if 1&1 isn't good, which web hosting provider would be a good choice for Joomla?

      Thanks,
      Jens

    • Hello!

Did you say your using ISS server not a linux one? od choice to run window server

All depend your need if it only web hosting or a server.
Web Hosting I sugest the same as joomla.org use
      www.rochenhost.com/
For dedicated server as long you have some knowledge I would recommend
      www.servint.net/products.php

      As both are highly rated.

    • just to check soem simple things ....

in your root you have a .htaccess with

      AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
      AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

      in it?

Did you upload the backup and unpacked it with the Kickstarter?

    • Hi Jens,

I have quite a bit of experience with working with 1 and 1 and getting joomla/gantry to work. Can you pm me an ftp login please and a super admin login for your site?

    • Henning/Brian,

I configured .htaccess correctly to use PHP5 (I know the error messages in a previous post say otherwise, but I only forgot to change .htaccess after yet another restore), but I didn't use Kickstarter.

To resolve the initial issue of not having any templates showing in Template Manager I tried a reverse uninstall for each component, module and plugin down the standard Joomla without success.

Meanwhile, I did a fresh Joomla install and added multiple components, modules, templates and plugins without problems.

Looking at these results I figured that my current Joomla page (still working on IIS) is somehow corrupted, but my Joomla skillset did not allow me to find the issue.

For testing purposes I could create another subdomain and put a fresh restore in there, but I first wanted to share my results with you.

Please also let me know if you want me to use Kickstarter to restore the new subdomain.

Once I hear back from you that it makes sense to investigate further I will start the process and PM you both a super admin and ftp login.

Obviously, it would still save me tons of time if I don't have to rebuild the entire site manually, but I have to be time minded as well... ;)

      Thanks,
      Jens

    • Hi Jens,

It would be better to leave it on your 1 and 1 account as it is now, and pm me the details please.

    • Hi Brian,
I actually removed it last night out of frustration... ;)

That's why I am asking if you want me to use Kickstarter for the new restore. I will have to do it from scratch again, but it only takes a few minutes and so it doesn't matter.

      As a quick update:
Many unexplainable issues went away in the new installation. Especially, some strange behavior with K2 and some other content related components is gone now. :)

So, I can create a new test domain for this and restore the current web page once more, but I feel strongly that I should continue with a manual restore looking at all the benefits I am getting so far.

Looking at the findings above, please let me know if it even makes sense to do another restore.

      Thanks,
      Jens
