    Manual Gantry Upgrade

Posted 14 years 6 months ago
    • Is it possible to upgrade Gantry simply by uploading the files and not going through the Joomla installer? I have a number of sites and this would be faster for me.

    • The update from one gantry version to the next is handed through Extensions > Install/Uninstall.

At this point I've seen no documentation on how to do it otherwise but I really don't see much of a difference between logging in and installing the file as opposed to doing it through FTP.

    • In general, extensions can be updated manually if there are no install scripts or sql queries that affect the database. I didn't see anything in a quick survey of the gantry framework, but wanted to be sure. If manual installation is an option, it would be useful to add that information to the documentation.

We have multiple sites on servers and update Joomla through shell scripts and would like to do the same with the Gantry framework.

    • hi there,

you should just note that there are differences between gantry 2.5.x for example and 3.0.x, as well 3.1.x, so in that case the usual upgrade instructions should be followed.

going from gantry 3.1.2 to 3.1.7 for example can be easily done via ftp from my personal experience. in any way it's recommended to have a backup, by either backing up the whole site or by simply renaming the existing com_gantry folder to something else, then creating a new empty com_gantry folder and placing the files from the gantry_joomla_framework-3.1.x.zip into it.

as with any upgrade or change to a site, do at your own risk. :)
