Yet another "Gantry Presets not saving" thread

Posted 13 years 6 months ago
    • Templates affected: radiance, momentum, (...?)
      Platform: Joomla 1.5, Gantry 3.1.17

      Reproduction:
      1) Save a custom preset using "Save Custom Preset as new" - call it "test1".
Saving / refreshing at this point makes no difference to outcome.
      2) Change a setting such as a color picker
      3) Click "Save Custom Preset as new" again, the dialog pops up
      4) Type in a name
      5) Hit Save... Nothing happens (No "Saved!" box, no error, nothing).

Basically, unless you click one of the default Presets, you cannot save. If you click one of your custom presets and try to base a new custom prest off that, no dice. Same happens if a custom preset is the current one and you load the page - until you click a default preset, you cannot save a new custom preset.

Interestingly, this does not happen in Modulus.

Is this something that other people have come across or is it a known limitation? The presets interface looks pretty flakey as even apart from this issue (In all templates I tired) - some issues I see are:

      * color picker fields not updating until you hover them or you refresh the page
      * icons for newly created custom presets not doing anything until you refresh the page
      * Sometimes during an update, the accordion menu goes screwy.

There also seems to be a possibly related bug with adding features.
If I add some params to templateDetails.xml but do not add corresponding entries to gantry.config.php, it seems that you cannot save a new custom preset. Only if you create a corresponding entry for one of the default presets in gantry.config.php and then select that preset can you save a custom preset.

Bear in mind that this is on a local dev server. I have not dared touch the live server yet as I have been having all these problems. Therefore, if you suspect the problem is to do with web server, granting you admin access to my dev server may be problematic. I suppose I would have to set up a new copy of Joomla on a live web server and try and replicate there.

    • Today I reproduced this on my live server.
I used "Rocketlauncher" complete Joomla+Theme+Sample content packages, so if these don't work I don't expect how anything will.

I get exactly the same issue on my live server with a small adittional nugget of information.
Whereas on my local server, when a preset does not save nothing happens, on the live server I get an error:
      Gantry Presets Saver
      SAVE FAILED

It looks like the saving of the new Preset didn't succeed. Make sure your template folder and "custom/presets.ini" at your template folder root have write permissions.

Once you think you have fixed the permission, hit the button "Retry" below.

If it still fails, please ask for support on RocketTheme forums

I have also noticed a slight variation of the problem on Radiance. On this theme, choosing a new background will also allow you to save.

I can provide an admin account so you can verify this for yourself.

    • Addendum:
This issue does not happen at all on Quasar.
Even if I mod quasar to add extra features which are stored in the presets.

Also, I see many other threads having similar problems but all seem to be talking about permissions.
I tried changing permissions, but no dice. I don't see how it can be permission related anyway, as if I click a default preset then I can save, so surely it can't be permissions.

    • Still no login on that account. Can anyone take a look at this problem please?

    • Hello, sorry for the delay. I logged in to your backend and your issue is caused by the RokGzipper. If you are still developing your site, you might want to turn off the RokGzipper and Gantry Cache first. I have turned them off for you and your site looks fine now.

    • Yeah, I guessed as much. I was able to work through and develop my widget and template without it fully locking up again, so all's good!

Out of interest, should something happen and the cache should go bad, is there an easy way to clear it ie by deleting some files?

    • Yes, you can always safely clear your Joomla caches by going to Tools -> Clean Cache in your backend.
