Why so many basic installation problems...

  • Why so many basic installation problems...

    • i seem to be plagued with so many basic installation problems - downloaded the Modulus template and no matter what combinations i try to install - "bundled with gantry" - "standalone version and installing Gantry as a standalone as well" - get error messages - this is the message from my latest attempt using the bundle -
      JInstaller: :Install: Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1060 Duplicate column name 'ordering' SQL=ALTER TABLE `jos_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;SQL = ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;Files Update: SQL error file DB function failed with error number 1060 Duplicate column name 'ordering' SQL=ALTER TABLE `jos_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;SQL = ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;

      i did upgrade to joomla 2.5 from 1.7 before installing this bundle - however, when i upgrade to 2.5, the new version does not ID itself in the adminstration panel... before it said Version 1.7... now it says nothing, no version listed... is that normal or is this where the problem is starting? and if so, what's happening here... i'm lost - i can't get started learning construction when i can't even get the interface to work correctly.... thanks for any help.... steve

    • i'm apending the above post - i think all the problems may be rooted in the fact that i get this error message when upgrading from J1.7 to J2.5... i posted on J forum but thought somehere might be able to help...

      JInstaller: :Install: Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1060
      Duplicate column name 'ordering' SQL=ALTER TABLE `jos_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;SQL = ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default AFTER `published`;Files Update: SQL error file DB function failed with error number 1060 Duplicate column name 'ordering' SQL=ALTER TABLE `jos_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;SQL = ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;

      is this a hosting issue....?

    • hi stephen,

      you could try to create a subdirectory on your domain and install a fresh joomla 2.5.1 there.
      then you can try installing the template and gantry again to see if you are running into the same issues or not. if not, then it's likely that your server is not to blame but for whatever reason the upgrade from 1.7 to 2.5 is causing the issues on your site.

    • thank you KAT - you are so nice to repsond -i think the problem is and may be for many others.. is the new version, J2.5 actually requires PHP 5.2.4 and my server is running PHP 5.2.17 - i believe this is the root of my problems - i am going to manually attempt to install J2.5 and see what happens - if that doesn;t work, can i successfully run J1.7.3 on some of the newser J products being offered? steve :D

      hi again,

      nope, that's not your problem. :)
      17 is a higher number than 4, so 5.2.17 is the newer version
      php changelogs:
      Version 5.2.4, released 30-Aug-2007
      Version 5.2.17, released 06-Jan-2011

      i am running php 5.2.17 on all my joomla 2.5 test installs (and trust me i have a ton, lol) and so far i haven't run into any issues.

      just let me know how the manual j2.5.1 installation goes and then we'll look further to find a solution for you asap. :)

    • hi kat - whoops - thanks for the correction - i'm using a remote server of course and i'm a little hesitant to go in manuallybecause there is a root cause of why the upgrade isn't taking organically - i updated 1.7 to the lastest version 1.7.5 before i leaped to 2.5 and this is what i get -

      Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7037837 bytesin /data/19/2/43/129/2695292/user/2960440/htdocs/vidir/libraries/joomla/filesystem/archive/zip.php on line 361

      i edited the php.ini file to reflect 64M of memory and 2048 of buffer - this is the max for the host

      i'm very frustrated as i want to use the latest version of Gantry - steve :cry:
