    SOLVED Multiple Layout Overrides

Posted 10 years 7 months ago
    • I know this issue has come up quite a bit in the past, but I'm out of ideas. I did read DanG's tutorial hoping to come across something I might have missed, but I'm still having an issue with a mainbody layout override. On a couple articles I need the mainbody layout to have 2 positions, SA and MB using a 4|8 grid and assigned to 3 menu items. This particular override works fine since the mainbody layout for the majority of the site is also 2 module positions, SA and MB, but using a 3|9 grid.

Now on to my problem. There are a few pages that I need another layout override, but I cannot get this override to work. I created another override of the Master, change the mainbody layout to again have 2 positions, MB and SA using a 8|4 grid and assigned to 8 menu items. Notice that now I need the sidebar to be on the RIGHT set to a 4 column width. Although the layout is saving and sticking with the 8|4 grid, it is not changing on the front end. I've tried making duplicates of the Master and the Override that's working with no luck.

Here's a shared folder with a few screenshots http://goo.gl/CNhgDi . The link to the site is http://www.uma.solar/ , but you would need to be logged in to access the issue. I can provide temporary admin access if needed, but hopefully someone can spot something that I've overlooked!

    • Maybe I'm not understanding you...

The "dealer portal" menu item is NOT assigned to any OVERRIDE - therefore it uses the layout defined in the MASTER which is set to sa3-mb9 (which is what you are getting on that page)?

the OVERRIDE that you do have ("Gantry - dealer sidebar") is assigned to "dealers" and "marketing assets" menu items.

      What am I missing?

      Regards, Mark.

    • Sorry about that, I must have unchecked it as I was still trying to get it to work. In the screenshots I provided you can see that I had it checked along with several other menu items. Even when "Dealer Portal" was unchecked the layout wasn't working on the "Marketing Assets" page. If you need to log in to the front end just click on the Dealer Login located at the top right of the site...

    • I figured it out. Here's a quick rundown of how I fixed this issue....
      1. Navigate away from the offending page on the front end
      2. Go to the URL Manager in the sh404SEF component
      3. Search for the URL of the offending page and delete it along with any duplicates
      4. Go to the Alias Manager in the sh404SEF component
      5. Search for any Aliases of the URL and delete them also
      6. Clear Joomla cache, browser cache, and then refresh your browser
      7. Navigate back to the offending page so sh404SEF can rebuild the URL and you should now see your layout override working

Thanks for pointing out the SEF component MrT! :)

    • You're very welcome. It was DavidG that found it on the other members site after several of us has been scratching our heads for a couple of days. I just remembered it in the end :) .
