SOLVED Assigning a New Module Position to All Pages

Posted 9 years 10 months ago
    • Hi,

I'm still testing locally with Callisto. I would like to have a login/logout button assigned to a custom module position in the Navigation area. The button is located to the right of the menu and social buttons. Intuitively, I thought this could be achieved in just a few steps by adding the custom position to the layouts of either the Base Outline or Callisto - Default and the changes would propagate across all other pages. However, after adding the custom position to both the Base Outline and Callisto - Default outlines it seems that the changes are not overriding all of the pages; that is, the custom position appears only on the default pages.

How do I make the custom position appear on all pages of the Web site without having to go into each of the 16 Callisto theme outlines and make the changes. In other words, is it possible to make the change one time and make it appear across the entire Web site, including the 16 Callisto theme outlines, without having to manually change each of the 16 Callisto theme outlines?

      Thank you.

    • Base Outline isn't used as a front end template. It's a repository for all the Default settings of the template. If you had your menu Home item assigned to use Callisto Default and this was the ONLY outline on your site then what you tried would have worked. However just as Gantry 4 used template overrides to override the Default template so to Outlines assigned to menu pages perform teh same task.

Your point about the effort to copy out a particle through all the Outlines has already been noted and is being worked on now. No ETA for this though.

    • Thank you for the reply!

I don't mind changing each one manually if that's the only way to do it. I just thought that there may be a better way that I was unaware of, and I didn't want to make the changes to each outline, only to subsequently discover that there was a simpler, faster approach. For example, in the future if I decide to change the block variations or tag attributes for the module position, then I would need to repeat the process 16 times, and I might make a mistake. On the other hand, I suppose I could always use custom css overrides rather than the block variations or tag attributes. Thanks again for answering my question!
