    SOLVED Gantry 5 different layouts

Posted 8 years 10 months ago
    • So I have a problem with layouts or better to say assignments in gantry 5. What I have is 3 different layouts - one is for the front page, the other is for the category blog and the third is for the article itself. So the FP layout is assigned to the home page so no problem there. But if I assign the seccond layout to one of the menu items (category blog), the same layout is than applied to the articles from that category aswell. So my question is how do I assign the third layout only for the articles or is that impossible?

    • This is normal Joomla behaviour. To get around this use the hidden-menu technique.

Create a MENU called "hidden" (no need to create a module to place it anywhere). In the hidden menu, create a MENU ITEM for each of the articles (single article type) and make sure these menu items are published. Now the hidden menu won't appear on any of your pages, but, the articles will now open in their own page.

Alternately consider using Advanced Module Manager which gives more control over what template/modules are show on a page.

No doubt though that once you have a category blog menu item it will indeed pick up all the article within it too (for the template) so it can be tricky to override this default Joomla behaviour.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thank you for a really quick answer. A had a feeling it couldn't be done just quite so easy, but thak you for the suggestions. I'am already looking into the advenced module manager and it looks promising. The hidden menu method would really be a last resort option in this case since this is primarily blog based and would mean a lot of work for the customer with each new post.

      Thank you again.

    • I managed to solve it with CSS overrides. I didn't see any other way of doing this but I must say that advanced module manager has helped me a lot in the process since you can actually disable some modules globally for the articles view. Anyway thanks again for the tip. I am tagging this as solved.
