SOLVED How to turn Gantry 5 template into a package for installation

  • SOLVED How to turn Gantry 5 template into a package for installation

Posted 8 years 8 months ago
    • Using Joomla 3.62, Gantry 5, Hydrogen template (customized)

What would be the procedure to prepare a customized template into a package that would work as a new template installation?

      Thanks.

    • You can't upload packages that install demo content (to my knowledge) directly in Joomla... are you seeking a way of creating a RocketLauncher-style package that installs an entire site, Joomla included?

    • I was not seeking to create and entire rocketlauncher, mainly because with my limited knowledge I didn't know if that is what I would need. My hope is to take my customized hydrogen template and package it into a zip file that would install like a new template, assuming that Joomla 3.6 and Gantry 5 are already installed.

Just take the hydrogen folder and zip it and try to install it on the other joomla with gantry 5 ...

Good info. That worked, mostly. The new Gantry 5 then saw the original Hydrogen template.

One more step was required in order to see the customized template style.
In the old site mysq tbl_template_styles, I found the name of my customized template style and exported that mysql row. Then, I imported that mysql row into the new site.

I'm thinking that when Joomla installs a new template, the installation file probably makes an entry into the mysql database. I was hoping to get the template installation file to also include the mysql entry for the customized template style.

    • The Gantry Roadmap has import/export

      github.com/gantry/gantry5/wiki/Gantry-5-...tion-and-Time-Travel

which will make it a very easy process... currently though, Gantry stores much of it's settings in the files in custom/user/config so you can still move your customizations around pretty easily... there a few things in the database though, like Outline IDs... but all that will be made easy once import/export rolls around :)
