No, you need to have you hosting account changed from using Apache2handler to cgi/fastCGI instead. Once that is done you don't need to enter any FTP details in Joomla and your installation will work ok. If you use Apache2handler (which you are) they you have to use FTP in Joomla - but Gantry 5 doesn't support FTP file updates (we've never had a reason to add it since 99.9999% of members will be using cgi/fastCGI). Ask your hosting company to change this for you if you don't know how or don't have access via your plesk/cPanel.

Thank you Mark for all your help.
You are not considering using FTP mode for gantry5, no?
My host don't have it installed, and don't tell why not and tries to surround the questions. So, as I need to go on with this work I will install a template with a gantry prior to 5.
Thank you again for your explanations.
Kind regards,
Jay
You can use FTP - you just can't use FTP mode in global configuration of Joomla for update and installs. All you need to do is stop using apache2handler and everything will be fine - usually that's a simple change to a dropdown box in your plesk/cPanel.

I'm getting nuts. I'm having errors I never had installing templates on top of joomla 3.6.5
I wonder if this new version also does not run well with uploads made with Apache2handler?
Please help
I decided to make a new clean install of joomla. Set the ownership of /htdocs to me and made writable (755) all directories as joomla says in file permissions.
1) Disabled FTP mode
Tryed to install template Chimera (Chimera Template Bundle v.1.3) that does not use gantry5
After some time the display was blank nothing more
Checked. Template was not created
2) Enabled FTP mode
Tryed to install the same template
Got this:
Warning
JFTP: :store: Bad response.
Warning: Failed to move file: /tmp/phpScRfSA to /htdocs/tmp/chimera-1.3-bundle.zip
JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file.
JInstaller: :Install: Failed to copy file /home/magiajsoares/57U0BFW3/htdocs/tmp/install_585a9e289f2ff/installer.php to /home/magiajsoares/57U0BFW3/htdocs/plugins/system/rt_chimera_installer/installer.php
Plugin Update: Could not copy files from the source.
Checked via FTP and in Extensions, template was not created.
What is the problem? Does this mean that with these last versions of joomla we need use fastCGI?
It's always been the case that apache2handler will give you issues with permissions - which is why we always recommend that you use cgi/fastcgi instead. Please provide me with your plesk/cPanel login in secure and let me know the domain and folder location you are trying to set-up - you should be able to change from apache2handler to cgi/fastcgi as part of your hosting.

That looks like a really basic and very limited hosting account and you're right it doesn't look like you can change much as all (if anything). I think if this host cannot provide cgi/fastCGi I would look for a different hosting account altogether.
