SOLVED Textarea editor - coming soon?

  • SOLVED Textarea editor - coming soon?

    • We have about 200 websites that we manage and that we built using our own custom Gantry templates. We are in the process of switching all of our client sites from Gantry 4 templates to some new Gantry 5 templates we've been building this past year. Needless to say - we really love Gantry! Our clients really like it too - particularly the new features Gantry 5 provides.

That said - we have one constant push back from our clients. They are frustrated with the textarea fields in the particles. Most of them are not tech-savvy at all and the concept of wrapping content in an html tag to style it is too much for them. They want a WYSIWIG text editor that is simple to use.

I read the GitHub thread here and I was very excited by some of the discussion there, but it doesn't look like the subject has been touched much recently.

So - is a WYSIWIG text editor expected to be coming to Gantry?

Thanks so much for all you guys have done. This is not a complaint - just a hopeful inquiry!

    • Sorry I can't give you any ETA for that functionality. It is on our list (but it's a very long list). Rest assured that we want to do it too - it's just that there are other higher priority items.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thanks for the update.

I was able to get TinyMCE to work for textareas in the layout manager. It was a pain to figure out how to do it, but it's working fantastically and exactly how we wanted it to.

    • It would be very useful if you could share your solution on the github ticket for the benefits of others... better still a PR on github would help our developers too.

      Regards, Mark.

    • MrT,

I see lot's of requests on the forum going back more than a couple of years now for an editor on Gantry 5 (HTML editor to be used in particles, etc). I've also looked on the GitHub Future Request
github.com/gantry/gantry5/issues/236 and github.com/gantry/gantry5/wiki/Gantry-5-...tion-and-Time-Travel but the discussion seems to have dead-ended. Is this something that will become a reality for either your Joomla and/or Wordpress themes w/Gantry 5. It's important for developers but really an essential element to allow clients to update much of anything on these sites.

      Marc

    • In all honesty I think this is unlikely in the forseeable future given the amount of time that has elapsed since it was first raised.

I'm not going to say it will never be implemented, just not right now.

      Regards, Mark.
