SOLVED Gantry container problems and ghost particles

Posted 7 years 7 months ago
    • I've had this problem on a couple of sites and templates I've been working on. Suddenly the layouts change and adds things like a copyright position where it doesn't belong and little ghost changes to the container sizes. I read somewhere that I need to reload the layout but when I do that I loose all my container changes and css classes. This layout corruption is a big worry that keeps happening.

    • You can load a new layout while preserving Particles and Settings... there's an option on the pop-up when you select the Layout Preset you want to load.

Always try and keep the Theme + Gantry up to date... the YAML files that store the settings have evolved over time and sometimes there's anomalies with older themes and the latest Gantry, or vice versa, that happen in the files.

The easiest thing to do IMO is to edit the YAML file directly... delete the ghost Particle/Section/Container then clear the Gantry cache... usually just a single extra line in the YAML file...

      go to /custom/config/[outline-id]/layout.yaml

it's a very easy file to read, understand, and edit. The biggest thing to remember is that YAML cares very much about line-breaks and indents so don't leave any lines blank, delete the whole line, and preserve the indents.

you can find your Outline ID by inspecting your URL path in your browser when on any given Outline or by visiting the Outlines page (button upper right) where the IDs are in the upper right of each block.

    • I fixed the layout by copying and pasting the container codes from from another YAML file I had from the same template. Reloading the layout didn't work because it would change my header settings even if I checked the box to preserve the settings.

I'm still not sure how these changes happened because I haven't done any updates to the template or Gantry I just opened the layout to do some work on it and it had the different changes. Like I said before this has happened with other RT templates from completely different sites that I've worked on also.

    • All of a sudden it scrambled things again. I've been working on things for a couple hours and all of a sudden a copywrite particle from the Home layout popped into the default layout extension-main section of the container srinking the section to 38%. I can't delete the particle or change the the section size. My only option is to go back and edit the layout YAML file again.

    • If you can narrow down what specific steps your taking that causes the erroneous code to be written in the YAML files we'd appreciate it so we can try to replicate it; along with your general outline/particles setup.

    • There's no special steps that I'm making when this is occuring. Take today for instance I was just changing a few Font Awsome icons in a module with an info list particle and when I saved the module suddenly the imagegrid gallery dropped to a different container in the layout and welded itself to a simple menu paticle from the copyright container and there was a blank space in the copyright section. I had to delete both particles together but when doing so the copyright particle returned to it's original postion back in the Home layout. I then had to re-setup the module postion particle with the imagegrid in the default layout.

As far as template I'm working with it's Sienna and have 4 layoutss (Base, default, Home and and 1 call default-articles which is used for blog layouts). I'm attaching a screenshot of my particle list. Of course I'm not using all of them. It seems it's only happening with the default layout.

    • Looks the issue is being tracked here

      github.com/gantry/gantry5/issues/1460

Can you confirm that's what you're seeing as well?

    • Yes this seems to be the same issues and looking through the posts on the link you sent it looks like it's still a problem as of 16 hours ago. At least if I'm in charge of the website I can correct things by editing the YAML file but if a client takes control of the website and this happens it could be a total nightmare. A couple of times I was only editing some text in a module/particle and when I saved the module it scrambled to layout.

    • Thanks I haven't run across the issue lately. Do you think it might have something to do with when I'm working I might have 2 tabs open, One with the template back-end and another with the Joomla modules back-end?
