SOLVED menu editor not save setting

Posted 6 years 3 months ago
    • Hello everyone and thanks in advance.

I need to insert a splash page; I have created an index.html and I need to change the link of the home button of the main menu so that it can point to index.php.

I moved the home menu item to a hidden menu, I activated the relevant module and assigned a nonexistent position.
Then I created a new home menu item like url pointing to index.php.

At this point I realize that the menu on the site is the hidden one where the menu item home is located (default page).
So I went into the Gantry editor menu and I changed the association to the menu to display the correct menu, but it does not work.

Initially I thought the problem was that I had to make the association both on "Base Outline" and on all the other "Theme Outlines", but then I verified that Gantry does not save the association of the menu.
      (See the atteched image)

      Am I wrong something?
Can you tell me the solution?

    • You don't need to do it that way at all.

      1. Create a new menu called "splash"
      2. Add a new menu item called "splash" and make it the "default" menu item.
      3. Create a new outline with as much or as little as you want on the layout of the outline for the splash and add a manual link on that page (in customhtml particle) to the index.php of the site.
      4. assign that new outline to the "splash" menu item.

      That's it.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Hi MrT,
I immediately start with thanks for the quick reply.

I tried to follow your directions, but maybe I'm not have explained the problem well, because I believe that with this solution I do not solve.

The splash page must function as a buffer zone; from the splash page the users do not have to go on the index.php.

My problem is to change the home button so that it does not go back to the ./, but to the ./index.php

The method before I had used, I had taken it from a joomla howto, but unfortunately does not work with Joomla 3.

How can I solve the problem?

    • What I described works as you want. The splash page will be the first page people see on your site, if they don't want to go any further then they don't have to. If they do, they click on a link to proceed to your "home" page of your site.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Sorry Mark, but it does not work for me.
I followed the directions, but the problem of the menu remains. In this way, the splash menu appears on the whole site.
Probably I miss some step, or I have misinterpreted something.

      What am I doing wrong?
(I am attaching a summary image)

      Always thanks

    • I corrected the setup to what I had already indicated.

      1. Link on "splash" outline was incorrect and needs to go to your original "home" menu item link
      2. base outline > layout > menu needs to use "main menu" instead of "default" menu now you have the splash menu set as the default.

      It now works.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Thank you very much MrT.
It was two problems due to the different language and my misinterpretation.

Wrong link: unfortunately I was deceived by the previous use of the splash made with the index.html file which then pointed to the index.php. Instead, rightly, the splash button had to point to the address (alias) of the home page.

Wrong menu: I misunderstood; I had associated the outline to the splash in the associations tab; instead it was right to edit the menu layout element.

      Accurate and available.
      Thanks again
