SOLVED Clone a block from one section to another secton on same template

    • I have a Social block in my Footer section but I would like to clone it in the Sidebar. I added a social block to the sidebar but the Inheritance tab had no settings just a message that the particle has been inherited.

I know I can copy/paste using a text editor on the '/custom/config/default/layout.yaml' file but is this even possible from within the Template Manager in Joomla?

    • Not directly, no. But you can inherit it onto a different outline (even temporarily), using "clone" option. Then you can inherit it back from that other outline back to the original outline in a different place (again using clone).

Absolutely do not manually edit the layout.yaml the smallest mistake will render your site unusable and it's also invalid to have a particle inherit from a particle on the same layout.

      Regards, Mark.

    • Mark,

That's what I figured. Man, a copy/paste ability would be awesome. Oh.well...back to the tried and true.

I edited the YAML file and it worked fine. FYI, I'm experienced in editing YAML files. You are correct. It is VERY unforgiving of minor mistakes and use of TABS! :)
