SOLVED blank page in backend after gantry framework update (from 5.4.35 to 5.4.36)

I have an ongoing project with Gantry 5 and the template remnant. I am asked to update the gantry framework from 5.4.35 to 5.4.36. As soon as I do this via the Joomla updater, I only get an empty page in the backend. The front end is still completely intact. What could be the reason?

Please post url, superuser ID and password in the secure tab of your reply and I will look for you.
Also, please provide FTP login too.

htpasswd login details do not work - please check.

Still doesn't work for me - please provide username and password for htpasswd on admin.

You're getting s server500 error - please look in the apache error log and tell me the full error message.

That looks like the access log and not the error log. There will be a message in the error log to do with the server500.
