SOLVED Incompatibility NoNumber Advanced Module Manager

Posted 8 years 3 months ago
    • We're building a website with the free Hydrogen theme as starting point for our design. One of the functions we need is the ability to show some modules only when visiting the pages linked from a blog lay-out, but not showing at the blog lay-out page itself. NoNumber Advanced Module Manager ( www.nonumber.nl/extensions/advancedmodulemanager ) is a great tool to do this, but....probably not compatible with Gantry 5. The extension isn't working and after installation I couldn't open the module instances in the template lay-out (returning a 404 page!). After disabling the extension template was reacting normal again.

Is this a known issue or are there other possibilties to show a module only on certain pages?

    • AMM does work with Gantry 5. The 404 error in the backend when changing setting is because of a bug in Gantry 5.2.6 - If you install the latest CI build that contains a fix for that... http://gantry.org/downloads#ci-builds . Make sure you download the correct (Joomla) package and install in extensions manager.

      Regards, Mark.

    • If you don't create a Menu Item for an Article then it never really lives anywhere... so it inherits the layout of whatever page it's clicked from, or, in your case, it inherits the layout of it's parent menu item which is a Category Blog menu item. So if you want a Module on an Article only then you need to create a Menu Item for it... this also has the inherent benefits of giving you a better SEO URL... domain.com/article-name/ instead of domain.com/blog/97-article-name

So just create a Hidden Menu for your articles that you want to assign specific modules to.

    • Hi Matt,
Thanks for answering. The use of a hidden menu is known to me, but only useful working with a rather small amount of static pages. If you have several categories where several users are allowed to create articles where certain modules should appear, this method isn't usefull and AMM can be very useful.

    • Hi Mark,
It will be a production site within 2 weeks, so a CI build can't be used. Besides the 404 error I just couldn't get AMM working. AMM was visible in the Joomla Module manager, but after targeting the module instance only to the articles within a certain category and not the blog lay-out nothing happened. Is this also due to the Gantry 5.2.6 bug?

    • You can use the CI build for now... G5.2.7 will be out next week (before you go live).

The 404 page seems to be gone now, but AMM still isn't working.

    • Hi Mark,

Issue has been solved. AMM isn't working when using module instances, but is when working with module positions!

    • Oh... ok... I can totally understand that AMM only works on modules in a position. "module instance" is something we invented for Gantry 5... but really your shouldn't be using many of those... always use module position particles instead of module instance.

      Regards, Mark.
