a general question about gantry 5

    • I bought the template 'Isotope'.
When i look at the demosite, is it right that i can conclude that there are two ways to build a site:

      1. You build the site from the component gantry 5 theme and you make for (almost) each menu-item of your site a new outline. (Becoause i think that when you drag and drop particles on an outline that are specific for one page/menu-item, you can not use this outline for another page)

      2. You make an outline that can be used for (almost) all pages and you make pages that fits in this outline . You assign modules and particles from the module manger on specific pages and so you have to make the modules and all the particles in the module manager.

I see that many pages of the demo-site Isotope not are assigned to an outline.?. I thought that that was the reason that Gantry 5 was made for, to built your pages on this way?

Is it possible that a website has p.a. 15 outlines or even more?

    • Well, you are correct:

For method 1 that how we create the standalone template (particles directly on the layout, which in turn will mean more outlines because they will be page specific).

For method 2 that's how we make the rocketlauncher. We predominantly put module positions only on the layout which means that the same outline can be used for many pages. You just assign whatever modules your need to the module positions (just like you did with Gantry 4).

method2 is by far the best method because it means that you can also share content between outlines (if you have more than one) by just putting the same position name on the layout (it can even be in a different place if you like). I would avoid method 1 for a real site, you can actually have as many outlines as you like but it makes sites complicated and you end up duplicating content.

Soon, this is going to be improved because we are currently working on "inheritance". That is to say, you will be able to inherit content from one outline into another without having to duplicate it.

      Regards, Mark.
