Joomla 3.6.3 update - template assignments not honored

Posted 7 years 5 months ago
    • A number of members have reported issues after the recent Joomla 3.6.3 update whereby modules/articles go missing from pages or a page does not look as it should. We've determined that the reason for this is that the "default" outline is being used instead of the outline that is actually assigned to the menu item (page). We have conducted a thorough investigation into this and have found that the issue is caused by a revision in Joomla core router code and third-party plugins that are using bad practice coding.

We have now raised a bug ticket on the Joomla project here https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/12499 .

In order to assist our members and allow them to restore a functional site we are listing the third-party products known to cause issues with J3.6.3 below. We are confident that the third-party developers will address the issues as soon as possible (or Joomla will regress the change that they made).

      djclassifieds
      axismeta

If you have updated to J3.6.3 and have issues with the incorrect template (outline) being used to show your pages then, if you can, restore to you previous backup and continue. If you need to continue with J3.6.3 then you will need to uninstall offending third-party product. There may be other third-party products that also cause the issue. Note that disabling them isn't enough - you really need to uninstall them one by one to find out which is causing the issue. So, take a backup and try it in a test site until you find the offending component. After that you can just report the bug to the author together with the above Joomla github link.

We hope that helps our members.

      Regards, Mark.
