Having done this many times with many different verions of the language switcher & Gantry, if the problem doesn't have to do with the configuration of the language switcher, it often is because you are using two different instances of the template, one for the homepage and another for default content - multiplied by the number of languages. You then need one instance of each of these templates for each language and assign menus properly. It may be useful to switch back to a joomla default template like beez, where you would have a single template instance for each language, rather than two, to test your language configurations to isolate whether you have a language configuration issue or assigning default pages for the language incorrectly. Once that works switch back to Gantry. Remember to assign menus in Gantry are to the home and not default template pages for the respective languages as if you are using the home and default version of the template in well as to assign that menu tho all pages that are using that language. Hope that helps. Ciao.
