1st time to backup site and switch hosting ... any Tips ?

    • Hey all, I currently reside with a hosting company where I think I'm going to switch to a cheaper one. I've been backing-up my site with JoomlaPack. This will be the first time I've ever moved or used a backup procedure to switch hosting companies. Are there any big points that I need to be aware of when trying to do this ? I'm hoping I just unzip a folder at the new hosting site and my old site just appears the same as it was on the old hosting site.

Any pointers appreciated in what to do ?

      Thanks

    • Retired, but build and run websites for organisations of school leaders and others - e.g. http://www.icponline.org, http://www.aspa.asn.au, http://www.appa.asn.au

    • Great program! It worked for me - just follow the instructions exactly. Best wishes for the move. :)

    • Practice makes... in other words my tip to you would be to setup a test environment to practice and test the restore of you're backups. Try setting up a wampserver or a xamppserver on you're local machine and restore the backup. See what problems occur and go in prepared.

      Good luck :P
