Access Control for Front End

    • Can anyone recommend an access control extension that plays well with RocketTheme that:

      1. Is Free (non-commercial): What is the best one you'd recommend?

      2. Costs money (but GPL with no encryption)

My main concerns are that any module position that gets no content because of the ACL will collapse gracefully. Also, it should play well with other extensions.

Any recommendations, free or commercial? Thanks!

    • Basically, any ALC component will play nicely with RT templates because ALC components are written to work with the Joomla core, which is 99-100% unchanged by RT or any other templates.

(There may be input styling overrides in some templates, but these adjusted or turned off in most of the Template Managers, e.g., '.content_vote','#rt-popup', etc.

Yes, the Module positions or Articles that are set to 'registered' will collapse or not be displayed.

Best bet is to set a a test site on your localhost or a sub folder of your site and test out a few ALC components as shhe which best suits your needs.

    • Thanks for your feedback. I've tried a number of the ACL components including JUGA, noixACL, and Simple ACL. But, so far I can't say I love any of them. I'm hoping to hear recommendations from others to save me and others a lot of time hunting down a good ACL component. I also worry about the impact of any decision made here once 1.6 becomes production quality. I don't have the background in Joomla 1.6 to know whether any ACL choice today will cause problems tomorrow.
