Help! Site Speed slow

    • Ok, so I am a newb and here is the site that I built. It's not 100% done yet, but a huge problem I have run into is the site speed is horrific. I'm using bluehost right now for the site and will be getting a dedicated IP. I know bluehost is not the fastest out there, so if I need to change hosting companies, I will.

But first, I want to know if there is anything else I can do to improve the site speed? Is there a way to get the images to preload so the site is not loading the images for 30 seconds on every page?

What do you all suggest? Forgive my newb questions.

    • the biggest contributor to your page speed being so incredibly slow is the image files sizes. I have attached some reduced image files, from your site. Some of the images on your site are over 2MB each. It is best to get the best quality images you can with as little file size as possible. If an image does not use any trancparency then, you might want to consider use .jpg file type for those images. reverse the .png image filt ype for the images that have tranparency.

You need to have a decent image utility software. For ( .jpg ) files there is a great free software named faststone image viewer. It also does a good job on some ( .png ) image files. www.faststone.org

If you like you can save the attached images and replace the ones on your site.

Can you please further explain what to do with the images that have transparency. You said something about reversing the .png file type. Is that possible if .png was my orginal file type? I use adobe fireworks by the way.

    • If you are using fireworks, RocketTheme has lots of tutorials and tips available here: www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=23&rb_v=viewforum

What I stated about some of your png image files is that if they are not using transparency at all you might want to consider exporting them as .jpg files which will render a much smaller file size in most cases.
