Assembly line website creation and management

  • Assembly line website creation and management

    • Hi gang,

I am an idea guy who wants to fly up websites as fast as my flighty head comes up with the sparks, with pretty much the same types of customizations that I will come up with, but with logo, domain, some content, and even template changes.

I hear that doing it all on a local host machine is the right way to go, but that is a bit over my head presently, unless someone has the instructions for dummies handy. I also hear that there are auto generation scripts out there that marketers use for shot gunning domains.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Sincerely,
      T.J. Finnerty :cheesy:

    • XAMPP:

      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=15&t=61746&rb_v=viewtopic

Once you've created a site on localhost and want to move it:

      www.akeebabackup.com/akeeba-backup-for-joomla/index.html

As far as 'shot gunning' domains, if you plan to use basically the same template and extensions, you can create a 'site template', one that is configured the way you want, with the basic setting and extensions you plan to use and then use Akeeba to duplicate and deploy the 'site template' to multiple servers / domains, customizing them further once they are set up.

Just make sure your live sites don't exceed your entitlements

If you are planning on creating sites en mass, perhaps you should have a Developer membership?

    • Yes, I do have a developer membership for Wordpress 8)

I very much appreciate the help.

Just to be clear. You are not suggesting that I have to create the template on my local host, but can create the template on my hosting account while in development mode - save it; and then ftp it down for use on other projects with a program which is a Wordpress verision of Akeeba.

    • You don't have to develop on a localhost, though most of us do.

Yes, developing on your live site (perhaps in a subfolder) would work just fine.
    • Thanks,
      jim
