Yes, that is correct.
After you backup your site before upgrading (as Joomla suggests), it should take about 3 minutes to upgrade the site as described in one of my previous posts.

Same principal as if you have a folder on your desktop named 'Work' with Documents 1, 2 and 3 and and a folder on your USB drive named 'Work' with Documents 1-10.
When you drag the folder onto the USB drive, it will ask you if you want to replace the folder and contents, you click on 'Yes' and Documents 1, 2 and 3 are over written but Documents 4-10 will still be there, they don't get erased or deleted.
Anyway, try that method next time...
