A friend would like to add a video to her site. However, I am not sure of the best format we should get. Any ideas of the best video file type to use?

First of all, what format is the video, flv, swf, wmp, etc...
How you embed the video depends on what video format you have.
You can embed video manually or use a 3rd party component to make the process easier.

- Well, I don't have the video yet. The owner of the video asked which file type we need. So I thought I'd ask which is the best file type. We are receiving the DVD and an e-mail upload. For the e-mail upload, I wasn't quite sure which file format to ask for.

.mov, .fla, and .swf are your safest choices as they offer the smallest file conversions.
Basically, you'll want to use the format that has the smallest size so it loads and plays fast without too much buffering.
You can get any file to play properly in Joomla.
You can have your client send you the file in the format they created it in and go from there...
If it's rather small, in any format, you should be OK, but for example, if it's a 50MB .wmp file, you may consider converting it to flash which would reduce the file size 5-10x. (5-10MB) - Thanks,
