    Extensions Packages question

Posted 14 years 9 months ago
    • i installed a somaxium bundle.

so to make things work, I will still need to download and install the Extensions Packages, correct? Do I upload the entire Extensions Packages zip folder, or do I have to extract and then install them 1 by 1? If so, does that mean I don't need to do the gantry framework since it shouldv'e already been done by the bundle?

    • Unzip the extension package and install the extensions individually.

Yes, Gantry is included in the bundle, so there's no need to install / reinstall.

    • Do i need all of these installed RocketTheme Extensions for this template?

This is a listing of all the RocketTheme extensions that accompany the template release.

      RokNewsPager Module
RokNewsPager is an article previewer and rotator. It displays content articles, in a summarised form and, using Mootools based javascript transition, rotates through a series of pages displaying articles in a contracted list format.

      RokStories Module
Functional showcase module for displaying content items and their accompanying images in an interactive and versatile manner.

      RokAjaxSearch Module
Ajax powered module, allowing for interactive search of both local Joomla pages and the web with its Google integration.

      RokNavMenu Module
RokNavMenu is a foundational extension which is at the core of the inbuilt menu systems and is a requirement for all themes.

      RokBox Plugin
Javascript popup / litebox utility, can be used for images, links, videos, websites, PDFs and much more.

      RokCandy Component
A component that provides BBcode style functionality for Joomla for swift and easy implementation of complex code elements.

      RokGZipper Plugin
A performance plugin that compresses your CSS/JS files, resulting in faster page loads. Compatible themes only.

      RokTabs Module
Tabbed content module, perfect for maximising content exposure without sacrificing on site real estate. Built-in Mootools effects.

      RokPad Editor
A code editor with syntax highlighting, ajax saving and much more. Better than Joomla's No Editor.

If you've applied the template to an existing install that does not use the Gantry framework, it's possible in the Template Manager to assign a menu or page to one of the templates that is not set as default, but keep in mind your content is probably published to positions that do exactly match the framework, so they wont display properly until you reassign them to new positions.

Compare the positions in the new templates opposed to any one of the older templates (RT or otherwise).

      demo.rockettheme.com/jul10/features/module-positions

      demo.rockettheme.com/nov09/features/module-positions

For example, in Gantry, there is no 'Advertisement', 'Logo', 'Left', 'Right', 'Inset', etc.

When you change from one template to another everything is not going to preview perfectly, nor is it assigned by any form of automation. It can't be.

Not all modules and positions you have used in one template are necessarily named the same or positioned the same from that template to another. The same goes for the styling.

As an example; There is no way for Joomla! to know that you want your "Breadcrumbs" to be assigned to the new Akiraka Breadcrumbs-Bottom module position without you assigning the Breadcrumbs to that position. Unless of course, the position you had them assigned to before was named the same.

To begin you should open EXTENSIONS > TEMPLATE manager and assign any needed parameters within your new template.

Next I would open each module and assign the new positions within your new template accordingly.

You will need to do the same with your articles and any and all module suffixes you have assigned previously.

Changes and or new assignments may also be needed in your menu structure.

Module Variations: The same applies here. The module variation suffixes for Akiraka are not named or positioned the same as modules and module variations in Hivemind.

It sounds worse than it is. I've done this before... it just takes a bit of organizing and a little time.

The CHOICE of how you do this and if you do this is yours. If you have a smaller site with little content it may be quicker and more efficient to start fresh. Backup your data first and make some screen shots of how you had it before so you won't have to go completely go by memory.

Though I am sure this is not what you wanted to hear, I do hope this at least helps you to get started and helps you understand what is going on. :o

If you want to duplicate (every feature in) the demo, you need to install everything.

If you don't need some of the features, you can skip installing some of them, for example, if you just want to use the Joomla core search function, there's no need to install RokAjaxSearch, and if you use a WYSISYG editor and don't think you need RokPad Editor, you can skip that, too.

At this point, you may want to back up your site with Akeeba and create a dev site on your localhost or a sub folder of your site for testing.
