    GavickPro - Fail

Posted 14 years 8 months ago
    • A good set of templates diminished by poor support and let down by terrible moderators in the forum.

Let me take a deep breath and try to recount this properly :)

The post quoted belongs on the end of this thread before it was deleted : www.gavick.com/forum/1-general-discussio...august-template.html

Ill begin with a copy of an email containing a xopy of a thread post :
This post is not in regard to the disclosure about a forthcoming template, it is solely a somewhat disgusted response to the support level here and the following response, being the trigger after reading more than several seriously lacking responses from "team members" :

      jpb wrote:
Gavick aims for the distribution of monthly templates at the end of each month. Please note the Terms and Conditions here .

Gavick.com does not commit to monitor the forums, but we reserve the right to respond and answer questions.

From said tems and conditions :
      9 Warranty and Support

GavickPro does not warranty or guarantee these products in any manner. We cannot guarantee they will function with all 3rd party extensions, components, mambots, modules or other products. Browser compatibility should be tested against demonstration templates on the demo server. Please ensure that the browsers you use will work with the themes as we can not guarantee Gavick.com themes will work with all browser combinations. All members receive access to the support forums for life, even upon expiration of eClub membership. Gavick.com does not commit to monitor the forums, but we reserve the right to respond and answer questions.

Wish I had read that more attentively sooner. You are often marketing templates that include styling for third party components, as you damn well know its a big selling point for subscribers.

I took a membership here to supplement a membership with another template provider, as I thought it would provide a source of templates in a style not so much available elsewhere. Elsewhere being a template provider that does commit to an obligation to support their commercially provided service products.

Upon consideration I have noticed support on the forum is slow and sometimes non existent, questions regarding problems with functionality often go un-addresed, or are addressed in a scornful manner, regarding the quoted entry from the TOS I now see why. Perhaps it should be amended to include :

      1. Use at your own risk - Caveat Emptor

You are providing a template service for a CMS that is widely used for its customiseable nature, to absolve yourselves of any support obligation without stating it more noticeably isnt good. If youre going to charge money for a subscription service you better include the text from no.9 more clearly on the page that leads to payment.

I'll probably just get slated for being another unreasonable criticizer, that seeming to be the way of dealing with anyone who doesnt have a suitable point of view so I will seriously be considering renewing my subscription.

Perhaps this embodies support philosophy Three Wise Monkeys

I sent that to all contacts at gavick after the following : starting a new thread back referencing the thread where that post was deleted and then the thread locked. Said new thread deleted. Another member started a new thread appealing to members to constructively respond with criticisms, I responded stating anything valid I post is deleted. Moderator in question responds with statement I was abusive and disruptive and a cryptic and I suspect rude statemnt if I could decipher what it actually meant. I responded saying I was voicing same criticisms many other forum members seem to share, and that I was being nice, I then stated Id respect support more if instead of deleting my points were addressed in discussion in such a manner I would have more respect for support of their products and we could reach some level of mitigation, and it would go a long way to improving many other members opinions. Thread was again deleted.

Seems unprofessional moderation wins the day and fails the subscribers, support is often slow, scornful or non-existent.

      Save your money.

Shame really, nice distinctive templates being let down by people who should not have administrative powers and misguided attitudes, Gavickpro could have been so much more, pity really.

    • Oh I've used them twice before for clients and if you can get the code to work, they serve a purpose, but it's no cakewalk.

The art is nice though, and the ideas behind some of the ways they build a template are really clever, out of the box, but if you can make it work in a busy environment with all the additional things we need to add, well, you're good at what you do.

    • Perhaps not, I was somewhat aggravated at the time of posting, and I wondered what "real" moderators might make of it :)
