I'm quoting on a 20 site contract using Joomla. The client wants the template to be compatible with IE 5.5 - 7, FF, Opera, & Safari. I barely remember IE 5.5. Has anyone run across any obvious "gottchas" using RT themes in IE 5.5.
BTW, I hate it how SMF wont pull up any search results using IE 5.5 or IE 6. I guess the search string is too short. Really annoying though.
John, i'm afraid we've not supported IE5.5 in a long time. It's just too old, with really bad CSS support. not to mention all the security issues and the fact that it's no longer updated or supported by microsoft.
It's a B to C website. Target audience is people or loved ones afflicted with Cancer. So the client wants to cast a wide net. I just googled browser market share and it looks like IE 5.5 is at .3% - 1.5%.
Doesn't support IE 5.5 doesn't mean it won't display. Just means it won't look optimal. It might even look bad... really bad... but for people who use 5.5, it'll look quite normal
I would suggest using the legacy RT themes... the ones that use tables. They stand a better chance of working well on all browsers.
Your client is going a tad overboard in my opinion wanting to cater to IE 5X users.
