    • Is there a way to create a FRONT PAGE or Landing page without using the menu. The page would have only a module. Thank you all for your help.

    • That's a good idea Rich and a good way to go.

You can install Joomla to a subdomain and have your domain contain the "index.html" page that you want to display.

In general, splash pages are a part of the older web generations when page load times were really really slow and you need something to get someones attention quick. Now users generally just want to get right to the page.

    • As long as you're not using suffixes for your regular site, If you use sh404SEF it allows you to use index.html as a splash page and will compensate when a user clicks on "home" in your menu so no need for a subdomain.

I've always found that feature cool, although have never had a need for it. As Ben pointed out, splash pages are kinda outdated on only mostly used now by MLM type sites.

      Cheers,

      Rich

    • Thank you all for the inputs, I wanted to use the extension name i accordeon as a index page, it does have a menu alreay. It is a menu as a matter of fact, I thought it would be easier to use it in Joomla and change the pics whenever I feel like.

    • Just food for thought....

Another way, maybe a long way around the block, (for older templates) is to duplicate the template and hide the maim menu on the copy.

With Gantry based templates, you can do this through the Template Manager.

Yet another way is to set all content to registered except for what you want to show to registered users... that way all the content is hidden until visitors sign up and login.

      Just my 2 yen... :D

    • Hi there,
Would someone mind in a little more detail how to do this thing of creating a landing page using sh404SEF? And or on (how to create and use) landing pages in general please. Or where i can find the info on how to do this. Thanks. (I'm using a refraction template but i guess that doesn't make any difference. Sitara

    • The idea of a landing page does really depend on what you need out of it. Making it happen with the sef extension is really just setting up the look you want for it and setting the landing page accordingly.

Are you opposed to just coding your own index.html page and having that be your landing page?

    • Thank you Ben,
No, i'm not opposed to anything..! it is just that i am so new to joomla! still, and i wouldn't know how to do this or where to start. (actually especially in terms of, how do you make sure that the index.html is what comes up when someone visits, rather than the index.php... ? And then i guess you just make the landing page automatically or manually link to mydomain.org/index.php????)
However in the meantime i have decided on another solution (replaced the rokStories with something else, a slide show type of creation) which works very well.
      Thanks for your answer. Sitara
