Auto resize photos depending on placement?

I'm not sure if this is a Joomla question, a Rockettheme question, or what...is it possible to have images in artcles change size automatically depending on where they are placed?
For example, for a "leading" post you might want a big photo. Then if you demote later to a "intro" article the photo might be too big--you need something smaller.
Can this be done on-the-fly or by switching automatically among various pre-loaded sizes?
