    changing domain names

Posted 18 years 2 weeks ago
    • i have a site that will use a temporary domain name while i'm finishing the site. but i'm concerned that the configuration settings might not work when i switch it to the real permanent domain name. does anyone have an experience with such a situation??? i tried google and changing the values to the temporary site domain name on configuration.php does not seem to work.

    • Changing the domain name is easy. You just update the name in 2 places in the configuration.php and copy of the site + db to your new location. I do this all the time. I develop my templates locally on my home domain, then copy the zip the site up, copy it over to rockettheme demo domain, and unzip it, then i modify the configuration.php file to match the new domain and the new virtual paths. Then i copy over the db with phpMyAdmin, keeping the same db name, user and password. And boom, it just works.
