How to add Custom HTML to template?

Posted 14 years 6 months ago
    • Hello,

I need help as well with adding custom html to a link in the Featured products article in the Mynxx template. I will pay for another membership if I know what I am trying to do is possible and you will help me achieve this once I pay.

I need to add 3 paypal button/forms to the button within the Featured Product article. I am sure this is simple but as everyone has stated before me, I can't get access to the Mynxx template forum for help because my membership expired. Please let me know in advance that you can help and you will before I pay again.

      Thanks
      **Please respond quickly.

      Hello Cha,

Please understand that this request really is a customization request. However that does not in any way mean that we will not try to help you accomplish your goals. In fact, much of my time in the forum is spent helping members with customizations. Yet, we do this above and beyond what the membership offers as a courtesy. There is the benefit of using the MarketPlace forum to hire out customization work in the event we are unable to assist you in a customization.

However, I would recommend that once you reestablish membership here at RT that you first post in the template specific forum and be patient in waiting for a proper response. If time is of the essence though, be prepared to pay in the area of $50-$75/hour for customization from a 3rd party, unaffiliated with RT. As you can see the small cost of membership and patience can really go a loooong way.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to the club! :)

Please, clarify for me. Are you saying it is difficult to just add a custom link in this template? To add a different URL to a button will cost me $50/$75 an hour if I can't wait for rockettheme team? I just really need you to tell how long it will take to allow me the ability to add a different link to an existing button? This is an urgent need and I need to determine if I need to use a different layout from somewhere else.

Thanks for your time and quick response in advance.

Most questions that go unresolved or unanswered are related to people trying to do things that are not directly supported by the template. These things usually involve changing the layout or behavior of a particular part of a template. Most people who are new to web development and specifically XHTML and CSS, usually think that what they have in mind is a simple change, and don't realize quite what is involved in making it happen. This is not RT's fault, it's the XHTML and CSS specifications that define the rules. This stuff is not trivial, that's why we've gone to great lengths to make as many things as customizable and configurable from the admin as possible. If you are fairly knowledgeable in these technologies, then you probably will have no problem making changes as you realize that everything you do has trickle-down consequences to other areas of the layout as well as an impact for other browsers.

Most support threads take two forms, the first is a legitimate bug. Any bug or issue with a template or configuration you will find quickly resolved by our moderators. Those are always given top priority. The second form is anything related to customizing, custom code, or general modification outside the bounds of the regular design, is going to get less attention. Those usually require alot more work on the moderators part, and frankly are answered as a courtesy to help people understand what's involved in the changes they are asking for. The vast majority of people who complain or have issues about the lack of support are asking the second type of question.

If it's part of the template we are happy to help you get things working properly if there is a problem.

What you are looking for may be beyond what we can really offer (especially if it involves custom code work on a 3rd party component).

Basically, consider adding anything that is not in the original template as custom work. E.g., you want a button here, add a Module there. Anything that is not part of the original template has to be added. How much time this takes is based on the complexity of what you want to do. Some changes may take a few minutes, other a few hours. But the bottom line is that we are here to support the templates, not customize them for you.

(Consider the average moderator spend about two hours a day on the forum, and can probably answer between fifteen or twenty template related posts. If they spent their entire time for one day working on a solution that involved custom coding, just for one member, fourteen to nineteen other member's inquiries would go unanswered. Multiply that by the number of moderators here, and the amount of non-template related questions... RT would come to a standstill - The shoe being on the other foot - you are waiting for a reply to a template related question while another member gets some custom work done...).

Again, if it's part of the VM core, you may want to search or post on the VM site, but if the request is beyond what they can support, you may get the same 'hire a coder if you are in a hurry' response.

As CD411 mentioned, patience is a virtue. I started with Joomla and RT templates a few years ago and needed extensive customization, and as far as the RT template goes, NEVER had to outsource. It took some time to get everything working properly, but the mods (before I became a mod) walked me through every step to achieve the desired results.

On the other hand, when it came to 3rd party stuff, I used the 3rd party forums for customization.

All in all, whether it's RT, or a 3rd party provider, you can usually get what you want for free, but sometimes, if your 'wish list' is beyond what anyone can support according to their TOS, you might have to pay for support at some point.

    • Hello and thank you for responding.

I figure out a work around and took me a few hours but I accomplished what I needed. I understand the time vs $ factor because I do this type of work all day. The only thing I was really looking for was access to the forum for that specific template since I paid for the product already or a straight forward answer to my question, which was "Can you add a custom HTML link to an existing button" .

All in all I am happy with your product and I would recommend it to a business associate or two but I would make them aware of the support forum issues and make sure they are aware that specific support runs out when your membership runs out.

Thanks for your time and I hope I can at least count on your general support like the support you are giving me now.

      Take Care
