How to display poll results on homepage

  • How to display poll results on homepage

Posted 14 years 6 months ago
    • Hello,

I want to display results of an old poll, next to a new poll on my homepage. Is there anyway I can control where I want my poll results to be displayed?

      Thank you,
      Zeynep Öykü

    • The Joomla poll is a standard feature of the system and is made to show in the main article area. Since it's not a module, it doesn't give you the same flexibility of moving it around.

Is it out of the question to take a screenshot of the results and put that image sized and place exactly where you want it?

    • Good idea :) Then perhaps I can get a poll module for later on.

    • Here's another possible option, but I'm not sure how it will render using poll results. Might be worth a shot though.

You can load Joomla content in rokbox stripping out all template styling. You could create a button for each of the polls you want to show results for and just link to the proper results page with the extension listed here:

Again, haven't tried this with the poll results myself, but it might work.

    • Yes, I just realized that I can't do the picture thing because the background is not solid. Even if I were to make it work on my screen it would look weird somewhere else.
But now you confused me :) I'm no web designer, you know.
I can also photoshop the image to have another background and post it in a border.

    • Using the tip in the link I posted above, you can see how the page will render with and without the styling:

Omnicron Poll in page with styling

      Omnicron with styling stripped out

If you make a button or just a link, you can open up these pages in RokBox, just like our tutorials open up:

http://www.rockettheme.com/joomla-tutorials - click on any of the tutorial links in this page and you'll see them open in rokbox.

Then it's just a matter of making the size display, so something like:
      {rokbox size=|fullscreen|}/component/poll/1-YOUR-POLL-RESULTS/?tmpl=component{/rokbox}

The added "?tmpl=component" on the end of the link is what strips out the rest of the template styling. If you don't have SEF turned on, and there's already a "?" in your link, use an "&" instead.
